5pm, end of February: The wonders of a long lens and a polariser. This is looking ESE towards the flats at Sighthill. I have been thinking of upgrading this lens (the one from the car park - as it was such a bargain, I could probably sell it on eBay for a profit) to a 70-300 IS, but on the basis of the shots I took yesterday it is performing pretty well. In fact, it took better photo's of the rainbow than the 28-135 IS. Hmm. Posted by Picasa

nr Appin, north of Oban. looking towards the rugged , unpopulated landscape of Ardgour. Great colours at the end of a great day. I'm in two minds about this shot. The weather was glorious and scenery amazing, and the photograph reflects this well. On the other hand, there is no composition: I suppose I could re-crop it to lose some sky and present it as a series of four roughly equal bands of colour. Would this improve it? I suspect not. I wouldn't hang it on my wall. Does that mean I shouldn't try to photograph a scene like this? Posted by Picasa
nr kinlochlevelen. Too lazy to get my tripod from the car so rested it on the bridge (restricting camera angle) and shot with mirror lockup. Thanks for the hacked firmware. Posted by Picasa
Yes, the weather was really this good. I don't think I have ever seen the top of BEM before. I'm not really happy with the crop on this one (or rather my inability to get the left hand edge due to lens flare), but I wonder whether it could be saved by re-cropping the right to lose the very steep slope n the smaller hill? Shall try.Posted by Picasa
